The government is to hold a consultation on whether zero-emission vehicles should have green number plates to differentiate them from ICE vehicles.

The Department for Transportation (DfT) hopes that the green number plates will help local authorities enforce benefits such as free parking and use of priority lanes to EV users more easily.

The consultation will include three different design concepts for the number plates (see below).

With a clearer path to making the most of the incentives of EV ownership, it is hoped that the green number plates will be another piece in the puzzle of how to get more road users interested in choosing an EV as their next car.

The consultation opens today and closes on 14 January 2020.
