A new gas-fired power station and battery storage facility is to be built in Yorkshire at Drax Power Station, after receiving a Development Consent Order from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

The 3.6GW plant will replace aging coal-fired generators on the site as part of the wider remit to phase out coal power plants.

The project also includes 200MW of battery storage, which forms part of the carbon capture and storage plan for the Humber region.
