In a new report, it has been revealed that renewables made up 33% of energy production in the UK in 2018.

According to stats published by Carbon Brief, the top energy sources in the UK last year were as follows:

  • Gas: 132 TWh (39.4%)
  • Nuclear: 65 TWh (19.4%)
  • Wind: 58 TWh (17.4%)
  • Biomass: 36 TWh (10.7%)
  • Coal: 17 TWh (5.1%)
  • Solar: 13 TWh (3.8%)
  • Hydro: 5 TWh (1.5%)
  • Other: 9 TWh (2.8%)

As you can see, Nuclear was the most prolific low carbon energy source in 2018, with Biomass also increasing its output (contributing 32 TWh in 2017).
