Job Purpose: The purpose of the role is providing expertise to Engineers in defining GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for parts and assemblies.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Provide expert support to all commodity owners within Body Engineering in implementing GD&T to CAD and/or drawings as per industry recognised standards
  • Provide GD&T training to Engineers within Body Engineering
  • Support Body Engineering in optimising locating strategies and tolerances
  • Run a forum to track development, deployment and updates of GD&T annotations

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:

  • Engineering Degee in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical or similar fields
  • Advanced level of GD&T training
  • Significant experience working as a GD&T expert.
  • Some experience working in Dimensional management, Dimensional Control, or Dimensional Variation Analysis
  • Significant experience in the automotive industry with a broad knowledge of Automotive engineering design and manufacturing, particularly relating to Body
  • To possess full knowledge of GD&T to ISO standards.
  • To have a good knowledge in manufacturing processes and their associated tolerances
  • To be capable of conducting basic dimensional variation analysis by hand
  • To have a significant knowledge of statistics and data analysis in line with the role as GD&T expert
  • To be effective in communication
  • To be capable of dealing with high levels of uncertainty
  • To have good presentation skills
  • To integrate into a developing and dynamic team
  • To be keen to take on challenges
  • To have a proactive and positive approach to work
  • To be able to manage multiple tasks and deliver them to demanding targets and tight deadlines
  • The role involes ensuring that the GD&T on parts is aligned to its defined locating strategy where possible, technically correct to ISO standards, and meet the dimensional requirement for each part or assembly to function and meet its quality requirements within the relative system.


Desirable:

  • Masters Degee in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical or similar fields
  • Experience in training engineers in GD&T
  • Working knowledge of GD&T annotation in PMI (Siemens NX)
  • Working knowledge of Vis VSA
