A vacancy has arisen for a Launch Engineer - Body Engineering on an on-going contract basis for our world renowned automotive manufacturing client based in the West Midlands.

The purpose of this role is to act as point of contact for the department during the launch phase of vehicle programmes and be accountable for the effectiveness of associated containments. Investigate issues to determine root cause and develop countermeasures to allow build to progress. Communicate issues to the system owners to enable development of robust permanent corrective actions (PCA).

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Act as single point of contact for the department during launch phase and be accountable for the effectiveness of associated containments.
  • Investigate root cause of concerns raised and take ownership as required
  • Work with system owners to develop & implement containments to allow vehicle builds to progress
  • Communicate issues to system owners to allow development of robust permanent corrective actions.
  • Carry out line trials for PCAs to confirm robustness of solution within a pre-agree timescale.
  • Attend daily startup and washup meetings as departmental representative taking ownership of issues and related feedback.
  • Present difficult and complex issues to company seniors in weekly Launch Control Meeting


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Degree level in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience within automotive industry, preferably with a broad range of experience, particularly during launch phase.
  • Experience in a hands on development / workshop environment
  • Use of data based problem solving techniques to solve difficult problems (e.g. 6 Sigma, PPS)
  • Knowledge of NX or willingness to convert from another CAD system
  • Literate in Teamcenter & Vis Mockup
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good ability to clearly present information to all levels in the organisation.
  • Knowledge of the AML AMPCS / MISSION process would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience of Failure Mode Avoidance techniques.
  • The ideal candidate will be a driven, motivated individual willing to put in long hours as required to ensure the smooth launch of world class luxury vehicles.
  • Must be able to work as part of and lead cross functional teams in the resolution of launch issues
  • Driving licence, Medical clearance to drive company vehicles.
