Job Purpose: The role exists to lead the Design and Development of tailgate & decklid closures for all programmes. The primary role is to lead the tailgate & closures team and be responsible for the full design specification and compatibility to all system attributes and performance targets. This will involve interaction and co-ordination of both supplier and internal departments to deliver the system within the quality, cost and timing constraints identified within the programme.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Set short/medium term objectives and co-ordinate actions to deliver system in line with the programme targets (Cost, Quality, Weight etc).
  • Set functional and performance targets for full system including Legislative, Safety, Electrical, Mechanical.
  • Responsible for delivery of design to meet all targets and resolving or escalating any compatibilities between targets where required.
  • Project manage Supplier(s) delivery against their Engineering deliverables to ensure that they meet all agreed targets.
  • Own Failure Mode Avoidance activities and ensure that all risks are assessed through DFMEA / recurrence prevention activities and that plans are put in place to mitigate risk at the earliest opportunity.
  • Prepare and own project-timing plans for all system engineering activities eg. Failure Mode Avoidance Activities, Build support, DVP test plans etc.
  • Responsible for resolution of concerns relating to owned system as appropriate to meet launch requirements.
  • Supervise assigned team members, giving technical direction and workload priorities. Run weekly team meeting for sub team.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Degree level in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Masters level qualification in automotive or management speciality advantageous
  • Extensive experience within automotive industry, preferably with a broad range of experience, particularly within closures design and delivery.
  • Experience in tailgate & decklid systems is essential including a knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Experience of assigning tasks and prioritise to small team to meet deliverables
  • Good ability to clearly present information to all levels in the organisation.
  • Knowledge of NX an advantage with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the Company’s MISSION process would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience of Failure Mode Avoidance techniques.
  • The ideal candidate will be a focused, highly motivated, results orientated individual who works well under pressure and can work to a given deadline such as pre-production and launch situations.
  • Able to lead team members with varying personalities and motivations in an effective manner.
  • Driving licence, Medical clearance to drive company vehicles.
