Job Purpose: Aston martin is developing a new range of engines and associated powertrain systems. These new engines have challenging packages and associated exhaust systems requiring careful heat management. We are looking for an enthusiastic and pragmatic individual to work alongside and support the exhaust and heatshield team, in the delivery of program and system targets. Role responsibilities will adapt to requirements of the wider team, but will range from (and not be limited to) technical documentation generation, project timing, supplier interaction, physical/rig test support, build assistance, issue resolution, vehicle assessment, meeting organisation & overall system design progression. This role will require interaction and integration with all areas of the business, and a successful applicant will be expected to be confident and keen enough to adapt to a range of actions & responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Take an active role in the Exhaust Module team to deliver exhaust systems to production for future Aston Martin product
  • Knowledge and understanding of latest technologies for exhaust system and exhaust gas treatment
  • Knowledge of exhaust materials and manufacturing processes including tooling lead time and costs.
  • The candidate should have good communication and presentation skills to be able to construct a clear case supporting the design requirements.
  • Support the PMST leader for supplier visits including tooling, engineering, test and development.
  • Aston Martin use NX as a Cad design tool with Team Centre as a PLM. Although not a CAD role, previous experience of reviewing CAD and checking drawings would be preferred. Training will be given for interrogation techniques in Team Centre and other AML systems.
  • AML may not use Full Service Suppliers to provide complete design specification so experience exhaust system design and development from first principles is required.
  • Able to analyse test data and make recommendations
  • Generate and present technical papers to support programme and product decisions including justification of changes required for functionality.
  • Liaise with system engineers and suppliers to determine component and system requirements.
  • Produce information to support package reviews, including consideration from all affected areas including production (DFA), certification, environmental, service and logistics.
  • Release parts in time to meet programme timing.
  • Support supplier selection and parts procurement for prototype and production builds including RFI and RFQ.
  • Generate BoM information.
  • Involvement in FMEAs and generation of DVP including setting of test procedures and standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Competent with MS Office.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Good Presentation skills.
  • Current Driving licence & subject to satisfactory medical checks, willingness to support vehicle appraisals and testing, including environmental, would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Preferably educated to Degree level or equivalent. It is expected candidates will need recent experience of automotive powertrain, preferably exhaust system design and development, in an OEM environment.
  • A flexible ability to work on multiple tasks to a tight timescale, accurately, without detailed supervision
