Job Purpose: To investigate and solve Electrical Engineering issues, as found in plant or within the field environment. Must be a good problem solver and be able to fully understand complex engineering standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Support manufacturing departments to implement the vehicle quality standards and to resolve complex vehicle issues as experienced within the manufacturing plant
  • Support and lead the resolution of technically complex vehicle issues as experienced in the field. Primarily this involves managing issues through the TSR system and working closely with the Client Services team to resolve issues swiftly.
  • Liaise with the Product Development team to initially handover the new vehicle content but also work with the PD team assist in the resolution of complex issues.
  • Assist in the management of supplier development and supplier resourcing activities to minimise the impact of unstable or at risk suppliers, this will involve working closely with Purchasing, Supplier Development and Resourcing and Logistics. This will involve the utilisation of the SREA / SPAP processes.
  • Work closely with the NMO team to assist in the development and handover of new products, assist in the testing of the systems in the pre-Job1 phase to help assure the system robustness. Ensuring that technical learning points are built in to future product via the QHR process or by attending the PMST meetings.
  • Investigate and solve concerns using PPS/8D methodology, while leading the system / component suppliers to adopt similar processes in the resolution of vehicle / system issues.
  • In the resolution of engineering issues, it will be necessary to contain problems in the first instance. While then needing to follow up with an engineering release to introduce the Permanent Corrective Action (PCA).
  • Work with suppliers to ensure quality problems (particularly repeating or complex issues) and investigated & countermeasures implemented
  • This will mean responsibilities both in-plant and off-site at suppliers and offsite at dealers. As such being able to travel at short notice is essential.
  • The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Company’s objectives.
  • Along with core job functions the engineer will also be responsible for implementing cross-department projects, systems or window roles


Qualifications & Experience:

  • BEng Hons in engineering discipline (minimum 2:2 – 2nd class). HND in Electronics applicants with extensive experience also considered.
  • Worked in OEM or Tier 1 supplier responsible for parts quality
  • Experience of Vehicle Electronic components/ Module development & manufacturing
  • Working Knowledge of Electronic circuits, architecture, controls, systems, Multiplex communications and diagnostics.
  • Be able to use CAN / Flex Ray / LIN diagnostic tools
  • Experience of Electronic Failure mode analysis and Fault tree generation.
  • Experience dealing with next tier suppliers
  • Has implemented engineering changes using SPAP / PPAP system or equivalent
  • Practical experience of problem solving particularly with Electrical systems products and vehicle (PPS and/or 8D)
  • Reporting from meetings
  • Meeting lead and presentation
  • Experience using word, excel & Power Point and Outlook
  • Experience using CAD packages for investigation (Team centre/VIS mock-up)
  • Working knowledge of Automotive diagnostic Systems and techniques
  • Must be reliable and punctual with a drive to complete investigations
  • Must be flexible to work out of hours where the workload or the location of work demand this. i.e. Being offsite at suppliers or dealers
  • Able to work overseas
  • Support flexible working hour and day as required
  • Must be comfortable to present out to various levels within the business including while at suppliers.
