The role exists to work with the minimum of supervision within the Interior Trim Department on the design, development and release of interior systems. The primary role is to support the Project Lead/PMT with cross functional activities in the production of finished designs and drawings, ensuring all programme and component attribute/performance targets have been met or exceeded. This will involve interaction and co-ordination of both supplier and internal departments to deliver the system within the quality, cost and timing constraints identified within the programme.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Support the Project Lead/PMT with objective setting and co-ordination of actions to deliver systems in line with the programme targets (cost, quality, performance, timing etc.)
  • Support the Project Lead/PMT in the delivery of the system objectives, ensuring all programme and component attribute/performance targets have been met or exceeded.
  • Prepare / support project-timing plans for system activities e.g. P-Bom’s, ETRS, Build support, FMA and DVP and present where necessary at programme reviews including, but not limited to, PST’s, PMST’s, LCM and Technical reviews.
  • Counsel CAD Design engineers in the generation of innovative design and engineering solutions to meet vehicle style and package constraints.
  • Lead internal/external suppliers in the development and maturation of trim feasible properties to honour vehicle style, manufacturing and Quality targets.
  • Preparation of detailed drawings to AML drafting standards including identification of SC’s/CC’s, reference points and individual part tolerances
  • Preparation and ownership of engineering release packs where required.
  • Ownership of concerns resolution including interim containment actions where required.
  • Support pre-production build events at start-up/wash-up events where required.
  • Support generation and execution of DVP and DFMEA studies
  • Support workshop activities with FMA activities and the generation of physical properties/Bucks.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent within an engineering related discipline with automotive experience in component design.
  • Experience within automotive industry, preferably with a broad range of experience, particularly within Interior Trim and hardware system design and delivery
  • Knowledge of interior trim components, Carpets, plastic injection moulding components, Vac formed parts, machined metal products and metal bracketry etc. Knowledge of leather trimming and mechanism systems would also be advantageous.
  • A working knowledge of component manufacturing, tooling requirements & lead times.
  • Experience of working in high pressure pre-production and launch situations
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good working knowledge of TCE/NX
  • Knowledge of the AML AMPCS/MISSION process would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the Failure Mode Avoidance techniques and processes would be an advantage.
  • Proficient communicator to all levels in the organisation.
  • The ideal candidate will be a focused, highly motivated, results orientated individual who works well under pressure autonomously and can work to a given deadline.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment is essential.
  • Driving licence, Medical clearance to drive company vehicles.
