Role: The Rotating Equipment engineer will be responsible for providing technical assurance and support to Stanlow’s Production and Service Units. You will be required to: Deliver the required level of integrity, reliability and HSSE performance across all rotating equipment. Provide guidance and coaching across site on UK legislation, internal and external standards, industry best practice and quality practices and procedures. Drive learning through quality failure diagnosis and reporting. Support and / or lead major rotating equipment Turnaround activities from scope definition and justification through execution and commissioning with responsibility for safety, quality, finance and planning. Support to Project Teams in specifying and installing new equipment and modifying existing assets

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

Accountabilities:

  • Provide practical and timely technical assurance to the Production and Support Units on rotating equipment integrity issues. As part of the assurance process fulfil the role of Specialist Signatory e.g. Fitness for Purpose Assessments, Maintenance Concessions, Management of Change etc.
  • Manage / support the Stanlow rotating equipment PSSR programme for reciprocating compressors, working closely with the Production and Service Units, to ensure no PSSR integrity ‘overdue’ inspections. Fulfil the role of Inspector and Competent person, develop inspection scopes, provide support, compile inspection reports, approve and mentor technicians.
  • Deliver reliability improvement of rotating equipment through involvement in site processes (e.g. Root Cause Analysis studies of failures, Bad Actor process, RCM reviews etc.) and through coaching of site personnel e.g. technicians / operators.
  • Proactively support, and lead where appropriate, turnaround scope preparation, planning and execution for large rotating equipment overhauls. Execution will include supervising the client and 3rd party resource to deliver HSSE, cost and schedule within agreed targets.
  • Provide support on Stanlow projects with machine design, selection, specification for procurement, evaluation of vendor responses, factory acceptance testing and site commissioning, as appropriate.
  • Provide support in managing and developing site wide rotating equipment contracts, e.g. Condition Monitoring, Lubrication, Mechanical Seals, to drive cost effective reliability improvement whilst ensuring HSSE performance.
  • Act as a focal point for Rotating equipment standards including legislative requirements, internal and external standards and Industry best practices.  Interpret standards for Stanlow and then implement, communicate, share as necessary across Site.
  • Develop and revise site maintenance strategies and long term integrity and asset replacement plans for key Rotating Equipment.

Requirements:

  • Formal education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred with, or potential to work towards, Chartered Engineer status. Candidates from other backgrounds will be considered where their experience demonstrates the required technical skills and practical & theoretical knowledge to deliver the role and preferably Incorporated Engineer status.
  • A minimum of 10 / 15 years of rotating equipment in the petrochemical industry or with a relevant Original Equipment Manufacturer.
  • Good knowledge of the range of rotating equipment found on petrochemical plants and the processes and systems required to support them.
  • Good knowledge of rotating equipment standards and their practical application in the field to deliver integrity and reliability improvement.
  • Good understanding of maintenance, projects, and inspection activities, risk and reliability management and quality systems.
  • Demonstrable communication and influencing skills to enable effective interaction with all disciplines and levels of the organisation.
