An opportunity is available for a CDM Manager to assist a leading engineering and design consultancy based in their Manchester or Midlands office. This role is available on a permanent or contract basis and can be full time or part time depending on the applicant’s preferences.

We are working in partnership with an engineering and design consultancy that specialises in complex infrastructure, process and built environments. They deliver projects from cradle-to-grave for clients across the energy, life sciences and manufacturing, nuclear, and utility services sectors.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The CDM Manager (CDM: Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015) is a qualified construction professional whose role is to coordinate the Principal Designer role, advise the Client on health and safety issues during the design and planning phases of a construction project and is someone who has knowledge and experience of planning, management, construction, and communications.

Principal responsibilities and accountabilities
• Providing advice to others on the requirements of CDM as required
• Reviewing information relating to an existing site e.g. site investigation reports and record drawings, assessing its adequacy and providing advice to enable further information to be obtained
• Visiting site where necessary to enable an understanding of pre-construction information requirements and the construction context/environment
• Reviewing multidiscipline designs with regard to CDM compliance, initiating dialogue with designers and facilitating design team CDM reviews
• Initiating and maintaining the CDM Regulation 9 Risk Register in the Company standard format
• Liaising with the principal contractor as required in the CDM Regulations
• Agreeing the format, content and programme requirements related to production of the H&S File
• Obtaining and reviewing information related to the H&S File e.g. operating & maintenance manuals and as built drawings typically provided by contractors
• Completing and issuing the H&S File approaching project completion
• Providing periodic Principal Designer reports to the client as required
Person Specification:
Member of ICE/RIBA/CIBSE or equivalent Qualified Professional

Technical skills and experience
A working knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015, particularly in relation to the designer/Principal Designer duties
A working knowledge of legislation and industry guidance related to the CDM Regulations (for example, Control of Asbestos Regulations, Work at Height Regulations, HSE guidance documents)
A depth of experience (across different types of project) of the design-construction interface
An ability to explain the requirements of CDM to others e.g. clients, designers, project managers, contractors
An ability to facilitate CDM design review meetings with designers of various disciplines
A high level of personal organisation to ensure that deadlines are met in accordance with the project programme, to enable effective management of fee spend and respond readily to questions and requests for information
Self-motivation, and a pro-active approach
An approach that is direct and proportionate (not overly bureaucratic)
A high level of IT competence to ensure that deliverables are produced to the required format and quality and to enable project information to be accessed (including MS Word, MS Excel and project web based systems like Conject and Viewpoint for Projects)
Essential Experience: 
A working knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015, particularly in relation to the designer/Principal Designer duties – ideally a member of the Association of CDM Coordinators or certified Principal Designer
