Roles and Responsibilities:
Operational Delivery:

  • Technically appraise the effective application of the company’s WPSs to ensure compliance to technical and legislative standards & Regulations and those of the client specific requirements.
  • Development and management of new WPSs which involves the writing, execution and witnessing of the various stages of approval.
  • Oversees the company’s welding capability, ensuring the right balance of skills, training, development and succession planning are in place.
  • Monitors over all discipline resource requirements in conjunction with manufacturing managers across welding and supports recruitment / selection of welding staff.
  • Appoints / approves key technical and inspection roles associated with welding on behalf of the business and for each contract / project.
  • Undertakes the role of RWC and represents the business along with the UK Company Quality Manager in all external 3rd party and client audits .(3rd party audits comprise of 9001, PED and EN1090 at present).
  • Maintain and develop the company welding performance data for performance, productivity and efficiency and oversee the reviews of welder’s failure rates.
  • To undertake random QA/QC audits on all welding disciplines within the business (manufacturing and projects) Formalise report and distribute to relevant parties.

  • Identifies and leads welding capability improvements to support the business strategy.
  • Develops and maintains and improves welding documentation that is contained within the company management system.
  • Ensures any changes in relevant regulations and standards are implemented in the management system and communicated.
  • Identifies and communicates best practice and ensures continual improvement is managed through the management system.

Advice:

  • Provides technical expertise / consultancy for welding to business functions and to the supervision and management staff associated with welding activities.
  • Identifies when work is outside of the company technical competency.
  • Interfaces with customer technical authorities and 3rd party technical representatives on any issues relating to welding.
  • Maintains links with relevant external / professional bodies in welding, identifying and implementing best practice.

Experience:

  • Ten years industrial experience within the Oil, Gas, Process, Plant or Power Generation industries.
  • Ten years minimum experience as a practicing welding engineer / welding coordinator.
  • Have experience of applying specialist welding and material knowledge to complex problems and have excellent technical writing skills to communicate the outcome with a range of stakeholder of varying backgrounds

Qualifications:

  • European / International Welding Engineer (EWE / IWE)
  • Degree / Higher National Diploma qualification in a subject relevant to welding, and / or materials / metallurgy
