Our client, a design engineering consultancy based in Cheshire is looking to recruit a permanent Principal E, C&I Engineer with extensive experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industries. As their business grows, they are looking for a Principal EC&I Engineer to support a number of interesting and challenging projects across their portfolio. Ideal role for a Senior Engineer wanting development opportunities, or an experienced Principal Engineer wanting a role to help develop more junior engineer.

Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Contribution to strategy for project delivery from an E,C&I perspective.
  • Lead a small team of EC&I engineers and designers, providing mentoring and supervision to junior members of the team.
  • Lead design and implementation projects relevant to the EC&I discipline.
  • Develop a wide range of E,C&I documentation to support projects.
  • Provide guidance to PDMS engineers and other discipline engineers on Electrical, Control and Instrumentation engineering matters.
  • Participate in and advise on all design activities and initiatives, including documentation review.
  • Perform all assigned work to agreed Safety, Health & Environmental standards and demonstrate a commitment to attaining high levels of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) performance.
  • Proactive interaction with other disciplines to ensure overall project goals are met. Drive innovative solutions to reduce cost and schedule.
  • Design, Specification, Procurement, Supply/Manufacture Liaison/management, Installation, Acceptance Testing and Commissioning to support new plant and equipment projects and/or Decommissioning projects.
  • Manage safety by developing and reinforcing the safety culture, compliance with safety regulations (e.g. CDM and CE marking), and the application of safety systems.
  • Develop relationships and further business with Clients.

Person Specification:

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience of working within a highly regulated industry, 8 of which must have been gained within the nuclear industry.
  • Must have sound knowledge of all aspects of electrical systems, control systems and process instrumentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Knowledge of AVEVA Instrumentation and AVEVA Electrical shall be advantageous.
  • Familiar with Electrical design principles.
  • Knowledge of Low Voltage Directive.
  • Ideally familiar with drawing checking processes
  • Experience of working within the decommissioning sector would be preferable.
  • A proven track record leading an electrical, control and instrumentation engineering design and delivery team.
  • Full conceptual design background through to on-site delivery.
  • Demonstrable expertise in working to tight deadlines
  • High level of commercial awareness
  • Experience of bid preparations.
