Project Engineer - NVH CAE Engineer

Salary: £38,000 - £43,000

Industry: Automotive

Job Type: Permanent

Location: West Midlands

Reference: 28870bl

Expiration date: 10 April 2018

The purose of this job is to provide NVH CAE analysis support for new vehicle programmes.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Provide a structural analysis capability and design support to the Body Engineering and NVH attribute teams.  This will entail the use of CAE tools and other calculation methods to assist in the design of components, systems and full vehicle to meet performance, weight and cost targets.
  • The role is primarily based around analysing and designing the next generation of Aston Martin platform, although supporting current programmes may also be required.  The successful candidate will own and lead the analysis and optimisation of a range of NVH, stiffness and strength load cases throughout the programme.  Other analysis capabilities including designing for durability and crash targets are a useful advantage.
  • The successful candidate will naturally also be involved in a range of other tasks including:
  • Construction of finite element analysis models within existing naming, numbering and model construction processes;
  • Generate the modal alignment charts and determine global vehicle stiffness targets
  • Assist elsewhere in target setting process, including development of Design Specifications;
  • Responsibility for leading the Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) process and ensuring that components/systems meet all relevant targets;
  • Selection of appropriate CAE hardware and software systems;
  • Development of CAE methods;
  • Provide support to the Body Engineering CAD teams, including advice on geometry, materials and fixings;
  • Provide support to the Body Development and NVH teams in the preparation and witness of tests;
  • Provide support for Programme Module Team and Programme Module Sub Team functions as necessary;

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering or similar
  • Worked on a minimum of two full vehicle programmes from start to finish (or equivalent) as an NVH CAE analyst
  • Worked on a broad range of types of NVH analysis preferably with a focus on Body NVH
  • Experienced in NVH attribute test methods of Body Structures and interpretation of results
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical engineering theory and practice
  • Knowledge of materials used in the high-performance automotive or aerospace sectors, e.g. aluminium alloys and carbon composites
  • Have the ability to construct a full vehicle NVH model from scratch
  • Hands on experience of NVH analysis tools (including Nastran and/or Optistruct)

  • Postgraduate degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering or similar
  • Hands-on experience of FE pre- and post-processing software (e.g. Hyperworks, Oasys suite, etc.)
  • Have the ability to construct a coupled structural /acoustic cavity model from scratch
  • Ability to manage and oversee CAE Engineers
  • Basic knowledge of CAD tools (preferably NX)
  • Have the knowledge and understanding to generate stiffness, strength and NVH load cases for all vehicle systems
  • May occasionally be required to travel to support supplier visits, conferences and vehicle testing.  For this reason a driving licence is preferable, but not essential
