Senior Project Manager

Role

An opportunity for a Senior Project Manager has become available for work on various automation projects, based out of Chesterfield.

Key Questions

  1. Do you have an HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent?

  3. Do you have knowledge of PLCs and other components that drive automation?

Job Description/Deliverables

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the Commercial and Technical success of all projects within their portfolio.

The Senior Project Manager will provide leadership to project and engineering teams and drive a culture with the highest standards for Health and Safety and Compliance.

The person should have extensive experience of managing Automation, Engineering and multidiscipline projects and have proven experience managing project teams and other Project/Package Managers.

The Senior Project Manager reports to the Head of Projects. Deputising in the event that the Head of Projects is unavailable.

Roles and Responsibility

  • Responsibility for a project {Commercially/Contractually}. Work closely with the Management team and Head of Projects on all commercial and contractual aspects for their allocated projects.
  • Responsibility for a project {Technically}. Work closely with the Engineering Team and Management Team to ensure that the solution provided is of minimum cost whilst being technically acceptable and in accordance with the client specifications and the company offer. Maintenance of ongoing customer relationships
  • Deputise for the Head of Projects as required.

In addition, for the right candidate the role has the potential for expansion over time, as our organisation strives towards its ambitious targets for growth and success.

Skills/Experience

  • Extensive experience providing Health and Safety and Compliance leadership to project teams.
  • 10+ years’ experience of delivering engineering projects in one or more of the following industries:
  • Nuclear (Defence/decommissioning)
  • Food and Beverage
  • Pharmaceutical/Chemical
  • Energy/Renewables
  • Metals
  • Utilities
  • Strong leadership & influencing skills
  • Extensive experience of directly managing multidiscipline project teams
  • Extensive experience managing a portfolio of projects
  • Experience of working with QS, Planners and other project controls.
  • Experience of managing other Project/Package Managers.
  • Managing Customer interface and relationship
  • Experience of contract management and forms of contract including:
  • NEC3/4
  • MF1
  • Bespoke
  • CDM 2015
  • Excellent knowledge of managing all main project phases i.e. front end, detailed design, construction & commissioning phases
  • Experience and familiarity with Project and Business software including MS Project, Primavera P6 and SAP.
  • HNC/HND in a relevant Engineering Discipline
  • APMP (PMQ) or equivalent
  • Membership to the IET/APM or other suitable professional body

This role will provide additional capacity to the Automation Project Management team for ‘High probability’ prospects expected to be won/executed in the next month or so.


This role is required to achieve the Automation budget/business plan for 2021 and beyond. As such, this role has been included in the FRC rate calculation for Automation Project Managers in 2021.


This role will deputise for the Head of Projects in the event of unexpected absence and is expected to fulfil the succession plan and future organisational structure agreed earlier in the year with the Automation and Digital Solutions Director
