On Friday 30th September, Millbank took part in the biggest coffee morning ever across the UK, raising over £120 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Staff at Millbank took part by holding the Great Millbank Bake Off, a fundraiser with a competitive twist, as an “expert” panel of judges ranked cakes handmade by Millbank staff based on presentation, taste and bake.
The heat was on in the face of some stiff competition, with 13 entries in total, ranging from Pizza Swirl Bread through to an American style Peanut Butter Cheesecake. Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry themselves might have struggled to pick a winner out of these brilliant bakes, with no soggy bottoms in sight.
But in the end there could only be one winner – An outstanding Oreo and Fresh Cream Cake made by Billy Spencer, Rail Coordinator in Millbank Group’s MDA Rail division. Clare Adamson’s Carrot and Walnut Cake impressed enough to come second, while the Lemon Drizzle Cake by Joanna Leeson won third place.
Most importantly, the cake sale along with a dress down day and MacMillan’s “Spot the Cake” sweepstake helped Millbank raise over £120 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
