Job Purpose: To lead a team of Material Planners to ensure material is available to support the build plan and any risks to supply are highlighted and resolved in a timely fashion to minimise the risk to production. To take the lead with problematic suppliers and liaise with the MP&L supplier development planner/CVE/Purchasing to develop corrective action plans and timings.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Lead a team of Material Planners that ensure:

  • Parts are available to meet minimum safety stock levels
  • Risks to supply continuity are identified and acted upon to minimise the impact to production.
  • Obsolescence does not result from engineering changes or new model revisions / introductions
  • Where shortages arise, swift action is taken to minimise the impact on production and solutions are communicated to all impacted stakeholders
  • Issue resolution for shortages that result in the prevention of repeat issues
  • Ensure supplier performance data is captured and updated in SPRS for line stoppages, miss fits & arrears to support corrective action plans and supplier selection process.
  • Supplier demand is forecast and communicated to the supply base; proactive discussions take place to predict and prevent issues impacting production.
  • Recover costs incurred as a result of supplier failure back from the supply base.
  • Minimise the need for direct deliveries (rather than planned pick-ups) and emergency shipments
  • Manage the emergency delivery budget
  • Liaise with aftermarket parts business to supply parts where this is commercially viable

Key Performance Indicators:

  • On time in full supply of parts to delivery schedule.
  • Arrears – number of suppliers and number of parts.
  • Parts missed point of fit and line stops.
  • Value of obsolescence related to model changes, engineering changes and overmax stock levels
  • Under emergency delivery budget

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Extensive material planning experience essential
  • Extensive team management capability essential
  • Use of ERP systems
  • An awareness of the Company’s  Production System / Lean Manufacturing would be an advantage.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, together with the ability to work accurately and efficiently, taking resourceful action during periods of considerable pressure.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience desirable.
  • High degree of MS Office knowledge is essential (with emphasis on Excel).

To schedule and control the supply of components/materials to meet immediate production requirements and forward production programmes consistent with attaining target stock levels. To be aware of all factors that affects or may affect availability of use/fitment for all parts controlled.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
• Generate and communicate supplier material delivery schedules to ensure that they correctly reflect requirements to meet immediate and future production demands. • Assure supply of materials to meet the production schedule and / or minimum safety stock levels. • Understand and manage risks to the material supply plan to minimise impact on the production schedule. • Take the lead in co-ordinating the implementation of modifications with the supply base to minimise obsolete stock and assure material availability. • Initiate inventory management and stock adjustments when required, to maintain continued accuracy and reliability of stock records. Lead and co-ordinate improvement plans with suppliers that are not performing. • Negotiate with supplier, the finance for “special transport” to ensure costs are kept to an absolute minimum, whilst maintaining material availability. • Where quality problems threaten production continuity, raise containments/rework requests, organize rework required, obtain suppliers authorization for cost where applicable to enable release of goods not confirming to Engineering specification. • Lead quantity related invoice queries. • Assist Accounts Department in resolution of price related invoice queries. The purpose of this role is to develop an in house integrated dealer diagnostic system.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Maintain the AMDS system, DTC and data logger databases. Add and refine the DTC descriptions based on feedback from the customers and from gaining an understanding of the systems the DTCs refer to. Add and refine the diagnostic signal database ensuring all the relevant diagnostic signals are available, correctly scaled and displayed and have a meaningful description.
  • Work with the relevant engineer to ascertain the supported module DTCs and data logger signals.
  • Establish workable diagnostic procedures for each DTC and ensure that the described actions can be carried out using the AMDS dealer tool.
  • Proactively suggest improvements to existing diagnostic descriptions and fault trees.
  • Author help screens using HTML and other objects suitable for display in an internet browser windowed environment. Author user guides which explain clearly the AMDS application functions for display in PDF format.
  • Work with service operations engineers to set up a two way exchange of ideas, the common goal of which is to simplify the diagnostic process and commonise the generation of documentation between the vehicle service manual and on-line help text.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in electrical or mechanical discipline.
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols would be an advantage, CAN, ISO 9141, Ford SCP etc.
  • HTML authoring experience, preferably with “Dream Weaver” or similar package
  • Good general PC skills, Word, Excel etc.
  • Sound logical, and pragmatic approach.
  • Good clear interpersonal communication skills.

The lead Engineer is expected to generate, evaluate and implement cost saving ideas of their own as well as acting as a single point of co-ordination and contact for other departmental initiatives across Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
The key responsibilities and tasks of the role include:

• Generate ideas for cost down initiatives on current and future vehicles through application of VA VE techniques as well as brainstorming / workshop sessions. Initiatives should add value to AML without being detrimental to the customer.

• Lead implementation of cost down ideas from inception through to line trial and introduction. For larger projects requiring separate owners act as single point of contact back into the business.

• Report out progress against cost down targets into weekly vice president level meetings and weekly chief Engineer team meetings.

• Manage workload of assigned CAD / project Engineers to achieve the best possible level of cost reduction for the department.

The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Company’s objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.

Qualifications & Experience
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

Essential:
• Minimum Degree level in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
• Extensive experience within automotive industry, preferably with a broad range of experience, particularly within Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in applying VAVE techniques to achieve cost reductions without impacting customer satisfaction.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Good ability to clearly present information to all levels in the organisation.
• Knowledge of VAVE techniques
• The ideal candidate will be a focused, highly motivated, results orientated individual who works well under pressure and can work to a given deadline.
• Must be capable of pulling together cross functional disciplines to deliver when work required may not be their primary goal.
• Driving licence, Medical clearance to drive company vehicles.

Desirable:
• Experience of developing test plans to prove out impact of design changes on customer satisfaction

Support Programme Leader in delivery of programme and assist in development of new process to support business. The role exists to support the relevant programme team in various areas including, but not restricted to; Programme Timing, Product Definition documentation, ETRs creation and tracking, Controlling and issuing PMXU charts, Commodity Strategy and System Selection. ETR’s Creation
• Creating Engineering Timing Release Schedule for new programmes as required
• Organising and running review meetings with engineering to identify release requirements.
• Liaising with Programme Teams to understand overall releasing timing requirements with regards to product definition and Material Required Dates (MRD)
• Checking Releases as they are submitted in line with process and updating ETRs accordingly
• Retiming releases in line with process
• Generating reports and metrics to support programme team in Reviews, PST meetings and Gateways as required
• Reports generated and distributed to aid in data population
• Support release meetings as required to provide/gain information
• Ensuring ETRs is up to date at all times to support programme requirements

Commodity Progression Tracker:
• Creating Commodity Progression Tracker (CPT) for new programmes as required
• Organising and running meetings with engineering to identify commodities changing specific to product definition
• Update CPT with commodity as required & liaise with programme coordinators to create System Selection Trackers
• Lead regular meetings to update CPT in line with programme timing requirements
• Provide metrics as required to support meetings and Gateways
• Highlight any issues to programme team on a regular basis

SEL (Strategic Evaluation Letter) and PDL (Product Definition Letter):
• Creating SEL and PDL documents as required dependant on programme phase
• Updating and gaining approval for re-issuing documentation in line with Mission Gateways

PMXU (Product Definition highlighting New/Carry over/Modified Parts):
• Creating PMXU chart at appropriate programme stage to communicate which parts are New/Carry Over/Modified.
• Update PMXU throughout life of programme as required in line with changes to product definition

Vehicle Programme Plan (VPP):
• Creating Timing plan for programme incorporating commodity timings & input from affected areas of the business.
• Update and re-issue as required through life of programme

Qualifications & Experience
• Automotive or Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• Extensive experience within automotive industry, preferably with a broad range of experience
• Knowledge of the AML AMPCS/GPDS process and participation in PMST teams would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of the Release Process would be an advantage
• Expert user of Microsoft Office tools particularly PowerPoint and Excel
• Experienced project coordination skills or clear evidence of leadership ability.
• Confident and authoritative presentation skills, and excellent organisation skills.
