An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Human Factors Consultant to join a leading consultancy working in the nuclear sector.

We are working with a consultancy that specialises in engineering & safety assessment and management to the nuclear industry. They ensure, through their expert knowledge of engineering, safety, human factors, waste management, decommissioning and radioactive materials, that all nuclear projects are delivered safety and to full compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be part of a growing Human Factors (HF) team, have drive and ambition and preferably with nuclear industry experience. You will be expected to travel regularly to meet the requirements of our clients. The ability to speak French would be an advantage but is not essential.

Spending the majority of the time carrying out technical work, you will be supported by your fellow HF colleagues and will report to the Head of Human Factors. The technical work will be diverse, across project and facility lifecycles, and will include:

Job Purpose: The purpose of this role is to manage a team responsible for developing commodity strategy & creating functional archetypes, as well as achieving platform & application Quality, Cost & Delivery Targets.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Engineer high quality solutions for the following component systems to achieve functional targets, cost, mass & timing through empowered Platform Engineers: -

Business Planning:

  • Define product content required to meet vehicle targets based on component archetypes & strategic suppliers. Determine investment & resource required to deliver product content (SEL response).

  • Complete annual resource planning & ensure there are sufficient resource & skills within each Programme Management Sub Team area to support application & platform requirements.

  • Direct reporting management of in-house team of staff and contractors.
  • Conduct weekly 1:1 reviews with team members to support and guide.

  • Stay up to date with technology trends in these commodity systems. Ensure that 5 year commodity strategy plans are created for each system & that these are relevant to the customer needs & business objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Preferably Chartered Engineering status or equivalent
  • Proven track record of delivering Electrical or Electronics commodities to an excellent standard, independently balancing quality, cost, function, weight and timing requirements.
  • Experience of delivering one or more of the following commodities: switchgear, lighting, camera & PDCs
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive development systems e.g. releasing, concerns, containments, gateways and sign off documentation.

Job Purpose: To lead a team of Material Planners to ensure material is available to support the build plan and any risks to supply are highlighted and resolved in a timely fashion to minimise the risk to production. To take the lead with problematic suppliers and liaise with the MP&L supplier development planner/CVE/Purchasing to develop corrective action plans and timings.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Lead a team of Material Planners that ensure:

  • Parts are available to meet minimum safety stock levels
  • Risks to supply continuity are identified and acted upon to minimise the impact to production.
  • Obsolescence does not result from engineering changes or new model revisions / introductions
  • Where shortages arise, swift action is taken to minimise the impact on production and solutions are communicated to all impacted stakeholders
  • Issue resolution for shortages that result in the prevention of repeat issues
  • Ensure supplier performance data is captured and updated in SPRS for line stoppages, miss fits & arrears to support corrective action plans and supplier selection process.
  • Supplier demand is forecast and communicated to the supply base; proactive discussions take place to predict and prevent issues impacting production.
  • Recover costs incurred as a result of supplier failure back from the supply base.
  • Minimise the need for direct deliveries (rather than planned pick-ups) and emergency shipments
  • Manage the emergency delivery budget
  • Liaise with aftermarket parts business to supply parts where this is commercially viable
