Refurbishment Technician - Welding and Chemical experience.

Refurbishment Technician is required to undertake all refurbishment
activities. These include but not limited to:-

The detailed assessment of electrode damage.

Preparation of the anodes prior to welding (removal of damaged
blades and other components) and the recovery and preparation
of replacement parts.
Weld repairs to titanium and nickel structures to return the structures
to an ‘as new’ standard before recoating.

The development of new refurbishment techniques and standards
when a new product is introduced to the plant.
- The repair techniques require skills in intricate fine welding with close attention to detail and tolerances with titanium and nickel plate or wire as little as 1mm2 cross section.

The job holder is required to be trained and competent to undertake all ECP4 process operations. These include but not limited to:-
- Set up and operation of the electrostatic spray bake coating lines.
- Operation of the hydride stripping plant.
- Operation of a variety of support processes such as grit blasting ,
etching, dis-assembly & assembly of anode plates and various QC

- To meet Company SHE policies and standards.
Although the job holder’s primary role will be as a Refurbishment
Technician, from time to time they will be required to carry out other process operation work at any of the Business facilities sites in Runcorn.

Job Purpose Carry out operating and fitting work on 5 Chemical manufacturing facilities in the Runcorn area, with a particular focus on Pilot Plant operating and Mechanical fitting work.


Key Accountabilities

The job has a requirement for significant flexibility of work type to meet the varying business needs.

• Maintain mechanical and control equipment in PVC and PCR Pilot Plants, to operate safely and reliably, be sensitive to equipment performance, planned maintenance routines, and critical spares to maximise uptime and plant performance.

• Operate the equipment in the PVC and PCR Pilot plants, including batch and continuous processing with repeated start-up and shutdown requirements, where operator interaction is continuously required to control, and monitor, the batches and processes, this would involve computer controlled sequencing software.

• The job holder will need to have and develop a good understanding of all process equipment and its interaction with DCS control systems, as well as manual and procedural control.

• Operate and maintain equipment in other Chemical manufacturing areas In Cheshire.

• Flexibility in working location, technology platform and work periods is essential to cover all related manufacturing locations and including response to out of hours emergency calls from time to time.

• Identification and implementation of pilot plant improvements in discussion with supervisors and operators focussing on safety, reliability and process capability.

• Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment and processes, and work closely with various design, process and engineering specialists.

• Maintain responsibility for a basic workshop facility at both pilot plant locations maintaining a tidy well organised (5s principles) work ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose.

Essential Experience : 

Essential Qualifications and Skills

Non Smoker.  The job holder must have passed a recognised craft apprenticeship in mechanical (at least) skills, with experience in a process plant environment. Plant operation experience is also important.

Experience of computerised controls is important, and working with an integrated maintenance planning and parts ordering system.  A diagnostic ability will also be necessary with the confidence to tackle a wide range of standard mechanical plant.

The job holder needs to be numerate and be able to read technical drawings and schematics.

The jobholder needs to have the capability to perform a wide range of mechanical techniques, in a range of plants, at a high pace with a high level of accuracy and a low error rate.

The job holder will have good communication skills and the confidence to interact with technical experts.

Further specialist training will be required (for eg Bursting Disk fitting and management, plastic welding, and additional specialisms) to support specialist equipment.  Plant Experience of batch process with basic automation in a semi technical/laboratory environment

We are working in partnership with a leading energy company who is looking for experience Protection / Commissioning Engineers to be based in the North West. This role will support a variety of HV and EHV projects, ranging from maintenance to commissioning of new systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Working with Protection Systems at all voltages up to 132kV.
  • Investigating and repairing faults.
  • Commissioning and maintaining protection systems.
  • Managing engineering documents, such as Quality Plans and Test Records.
  • Planning outages and contingency planning.

Person Specification:

  • Ideally AP (Senior Authorised Person) qualified at 33Kv and 132kV.
  • A minimum of a HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • Good Project Management experience.
  • Proven experience in delivering capital projects.
  • Working on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience of switching systems at 33kV and 132kV.
