Project Manager - Natural Catchment Management Our local Authority client are looking to appoint a project manager to take the lead on a Welsh Government backed Natural Catchment Management (NCM) project. The aim of the project is to identify a suitable site within Conwy where Natural Catchment methods can be used to reduce flood risk and improve the wider natural environment. The project must be completed by April 18.

The project manager must be able to chair meetings, produce reports, liaise with third parties and deliver the project within a tight timescale. 

They may also be asked to assist with other tasks within the Flood Risk and Infrastructure team.

The main tasks of the project manager are as follows:-

  • Procure a consultant to carry out an assessment of all catchments within the area.  The assessment will identify a catchment suitable for a natural catchment management pilot scheme.
  • To assist with the development of the EU business case.
  • To carry out a fact finding exercise, looking at NCM case studies in the UK and Europe.
  • To research and collate good working practices documentation in the fields of NCM, landowner engagement and public awareness.
  • To research external funding sources available for landowners.
  • To prepare a communication strategy for engaging landowners, communities at risk.
  • Meet with key stakeholders such as NRW & National Trust
  • Meet with local universities to consider either becoming a partner
  • To prepare an outline NCM handbook for Wales for discussion with WG

Please note that potential candidates will be interviewed and will be expected to prepare a 5 minute presentation titled “Natural Catchment Management - how to reduce flood risk by improving the wider environment”

Person Specification:

Essential Experience : 

Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or Geography or Environment (Can come from any of those academic backgrounds)
