We are assisting a leading engineering & project management contractor that specialises in the delivery of projects in highly regulated industries that include defence, oil & gas, nuclear and research.

Riggers are required for a large nuclear project based in Barrow. Candidates should be SC Cleared and NVQ Level 3 qualified.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Set up or repair rigging for construction projects / manufacturing projects on site

Key responsibilities as a Rigger:

  • Work safely and in line with written procedures, carrying out your own risk assessment before commencing work
  • Check that all plant and equipment to be used is in good order and certified for use
  • Dismantle contaminated plant, structures and equipment used within nuclear facilities using a variety of cutting techniques
  • Package and transport radioactive waste
  • Assist the team to deal with hazards and risks
  • Undertake decontamination operations
  • Implement safe access systems in radiation/contamination controlled environment
  • Contribute to your own development
  • Assemble equipment to aid nuclear decommissioning
  • Dismantle equipment used in nuclear decommissioning
  • Carry out planned maintenance procedures on plant, equipment and buildings used in nuclear decommissioning
  • Update all paperwork to reflect status of work at the end of each shift


Position of the Rigger within the organisation:

  • Reporting to the site supervisor operationally and Site Manager at Line.
  • Functionally responsible to the Site Operations Manager

Ideally you will have the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Coordination -- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions
  • Repairing -- Repairing plant or equipment using the required tools
  • Quality Control Analysis -- Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Equipment Maintenance -- Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
  • Equipment Selection -- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Operation Monitoring -- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure a machine is working correctly
  • Operation and Control -- Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Installation -- Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications
  • Technology Design -- Generating or adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Public Safety and Security -- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Physics -- Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.
  • Essential Experience: 
  • Experience Rigger with experience of working on nuclear/defence related site based projects
  • SC Cleared
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3.
