Job Purpose Part of a small team, this role is responsible for specifying and validating network communication between electronic control modules (ECUs) on all of Aston Martin’s mainstream programmes.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Working with Engineers and suppliers from a variety of systems to define network and signal requirements as part of the requirements capture process.
  • Authoring requirements specifications for signals, nodes, and functions.
  • Communication design (signal packing, frame identifier assignment, gateway routing)
  • Network Validation, prototype vehicle debugging and support.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Engineering Degree or Equivalent Qualification. (Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunication, software.)
  • Experience in automotive electronics related design or test work.
  • Good understanding of at least one of the following protocols: CAN, LIN, or FlexRay.
  • Familiarity with the following protocols: CAN, LIN, or FlexRay, Ethernet, AUTOSAR Classic Platform
  • Good knowledge of DBC and FIBEX Automotive standards for serial data/communication level.
  • Knowledge of physical layer hardware design guidelines, specification and testing for CAN, LIN and FlexRay.
  • Good understanding and some experience writing embedded software
  • Working knowledge of functional safety (ISO26262) and its application to network design
  • Knowledge of Daimler “Star” network architecture
  • Significant experience of systems engineering and requirements capture
  • Working knowledge of network requirements to support off-board diagnostics, network management
  • Competent user of Volcano Network Architect (VNA) or Mentor Graphics VSA.
  • Experience of using Timing Analysis tools (can scope) and vehicle diagnostic tools
  • Knowledge of FMEA, FTA, Hazard analysis.
  • Competent user of Vector network tools (CANalyser, CANoe, etc)
  • Experience using network logging equipment
  • Familiarity with the ARXML format. Signal timing and bus utilisation analysis
  • The successful candidate with be enthusiastic and self-motivated. The candidate must show strong character attributes as well as the necessary knowledge and experience above. The best candidate will be open-minded and lateral thinking in the face of challenging timing and product targets. The candidate must be proactive and trust their initiative using minimum supervision to produce practical solutions.
