Job Purpose: The purpose of the Senior Engineer – Switchgear role is to lead the development of new or modified switch systems.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
The key responsibilities and tasks of the role include:

  • Lead the successful delivery of new and modified Switchgear projects from concept to production.
  • Work with the function owners and integration engineers to create system specifications that meet all current and future requirements.
  • Provide mechanical and electrical technical direction to ensure feasibility of concept proposals, supporting Design aspirations to deliver class-leading systems.
  • Understand industry technology trends and generate system proposals for inclusion on future programmes.
  • Produce and control supporting design documentation to demonstrate robust development process. To include Design Failure Models and Effects Analysis, Design Verification Plan, Engineering Release, Concern Resolution and sign-off reports.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of status reports to senior management.
  • Support vehicle build and launch activities. Investigate, contain and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Support cross-functional development of future commodity strategy.
  • Support TDC, Current Vehicle Engineering, Purchasing and Production activities with technical assistance throughout the product lifetime.
  • Undertake other tasks in support of Electrical department or company objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Relevant Engineering Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a switchgear development role.
  • Experience of working in the automotive industry.
  • Must be able to work within teams effectively.
  • Must be able to give technical direction both when developing internal concepts and overseeing supplier teams.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Switch and Control Electronics systems.
  • Must possess an engineering mind-set and logical approach to problem solving.
  • Must be able to manage large workloads in a high pressure environment and prioritise accordingly.
  • Should have good presentation skills.
  • Should have a good understanding of engineering process and a working knowledge of industry standard tool sets (FMEA, Design Verification Plan, Six Sigma, Production Part Approval Process etc.).
  • Proactive approach to supporting prototype builds and resolving issues.
  • Ability to analyse and validate supplier data and develop alternative proposals where necessary.
  • Must be able to work under their own initiative with minimum supervision to deliver objectives.
  • Excellent organisational skills – both of self and others.
  • Comfortable working to deadlines and holding others to those deadlines.
  • Able to influence others – even when direct reporting lines are not present.
  • Able to interact with confidence at all levels of the business & across departments, representing the Electrical Engineering team.
  • Strong team building and networking skills.
  • Driving Licence
