Job Purpose: The role purpose is to design and develop power window mechanisms on new vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Create and update designs for body mechanisms components and installations on new vehicle programmes using UG NX.
  • Create and update component drawings to AML drafting standards.
  • Manage CAD product structure and coordinate all data import / export to/from suppliers
  • Produce engineering sections and concept CAD models to support design theme and vehicle hard-point development
  • Work under the direction of Project Engineer and Commodity Leader on day-day basis.
  • Investigate concerns from component testing, and vehicle builds to establish root cause and design permanent corrective actions.
  • Support virtual build events and other cross functional reviews to ensure compatibility of components with interfacing systems and design surfaces.
  • Assist in developing component and system function, quality and attribute targets and ensure that all designs are compatible with these targets.
  • Participate in Failure Mode Avoidance activities including DFMEA and physical testing on bucks, rigs and prototype vehicles.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent).
  • Experience in the design and integration of automotive body mechanisms, glazing and/or sealing systems.
  • Experience of design and/or integration of automotive power window systems is desirable.
  • Relevant experience in other automotive body mechanisms (Locks & latches, wash-wipe systems), closures exterior trim, glazing and/or sealing systems may be considered.
  • A working knowledge of component manufacturing and tooling requirements (including injection moulding, stamping, casting, fabrication).
  • Experienced CAD user (Siemens NX)
  • Able to develop dynamic envelopes for power window systems based on design surfaces, closure design concepts and other applicable hard-points
  • Design of mechanisms in CAD including basic kinematic / stress analysis
  • Proven ability to work with other Body Engineering functions to solve packaging issues and meet manufacturing, ergonomic, design and function targets
  • Familiar with design verification testing and DFMEA
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within cross-functional teams and with external suppliers to solve complex engineering problems
  • Ability to work to under pressure to agreed deadlines and cost targets.
