Job Purpose: The purpose of the role is to lead the Design and Development of rear BIW system.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
The key responsibilities and tasks of the role include:

  • To line manage the rear end BIW team and be responsible for the full design specification and compatibility to all system attributes and performance targets. Develop new technologies to develop archetypes which deliver year on year savings of mass, investment and piece cost in line with departmental strategic plan.
  • Line manage rear BIW team.
  • Manage resource to ensure ability to support applications requirements for seconded project engineers.
  • Set short/medium term objectives and co-ordinate actions to deliver system in line with programme targets (Cost, Quality, Weight etc) & departmental strategic plans.
  • Set functional and performance targets for full system including Legislative, Safety, Electrical, Mechanical.
  • Deliver designs archetypes to meet all functional targets and achieve year on year savings for mass, part count, piece cost & investment.
  • Act as technical point of escalation for applications issues relating to front end BIW.
  • Own Failure Mode Avoidance activities and ensure that all risks are assessed through DFMEA / recurrence prevention activities and that plans are put in place to mitigate risk at the earliest opportunity.
  • Prepare and own project-timing plans for all system engineering activities eg. Failure Mode Avoidance Activities, Build support, DVP test plans etc.
  • Responsible for resolution of concerns relating to owned system as appropriate to meet launch requirements.
  • Supervise assigned team members, giving technical direction and workload priorities. Run weekly team meeting for sub team.

Qualifications & Experience:
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum Degree level in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Masters level qualification in automotive or management speciality advantageous
  • Experience within automotive industry, preferably with a broad range of experience, particularly within closures design and delivery.
  • Experience in front end BIW systems is essential
  • Experience of working in high pressure pre-production and launch situations
  • Experience of assigning tasks and prioritise to small team to meet deliverables
  • Experience in introduction of new technologies essential
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good ability to clearly present information to all levels in the organisation.
  • Knowledge of NX an advantage
  • Knowledge of the Company’s MISSION process would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience of Failure Mode Avoidance techniques.
