The purpose of the role is to lead the CAE team NVH capability to deliver programme targets and develop analysis methodologies

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
The key responsibilities and tasks of the role include:

• Provide a structural analysis capability and design support to the Body Engineering team. This will entail the use of CAE tools and other calculation methods to assist in the design of components, systems and full vehicle to meet performance, weight and cost targets.
• Construction of finite element analysis models within existing naming, numbering and model construction processes;
• Generate the modal alignment charts and determine global vehicle stiffness targets
• Liaise with NVH attribute team to develop Body targets
• Assist elsewhere in target setting process, including development of Design Specifications;
• Responsibility for leading the Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) process and ensuring that components/systems meet all relevant targets;
• Selection of appropriate CAE hardware and software systems;
• Development of CAE methods and processes;
• Provide support to the Body Engineering CAD teams, including advice on geometry, materials and fixings;
• Provide support to the Body Development and NVH teams in the preparation and witness of tests;
• Provide support for PMT and PMST functions as necessary

The role is primarily based around analysing and designing the next generation of Aston Martin platform, although supporting current programmes will also be required. The successful candidate will lead the NVH CAE team to deliver analysis and optimisation of a range of NVH, stiffness and strength load cases throughout the programme. Other analysis capabilities including designing for durability and crash targets are a useful advantage.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

Essential:

• Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical or similar fields
• Background in automotive engineering through degree or professional experience
• Worked on a minimum of two full vehicle programmes in a NVH CAE lead role - overseeing the work of other engineers
• Worked on a minimum of three full vehicle programmes using NASTRAN and/or Optistruct to deliver NVH attribute performance
• Worked on a minimum of four full vehicle programmes having experienced a broad knowledge of automotive engineering design and manufacturing, particularly relating to body structures
• Excellent understanding of mechanical engineering theory and practice
• Knowledge of materials used in the high-performance automotive or aerospace sectors, e.g. aluminium alloys and carbon composites
• Ability to construct a full vehicle NVH model from scratch
• Hands-on experience of FE pre- and post-processing software (e.g. Hyperworks, Oasys suite, etc.)
• Ability to construct a coupled structural /acoustic cavity model from scratch
• Ability to manage and oversee CAE Engineers
• Have the knowledge and understanding to generate stiffness, strength and NVH load cases for all vehicle systems
• Effective in communication: verbal and written
• Be able to deal with high levels of uncertainty
• Excellent presentation skills
• Be able to integrate into a developing and dynamic team
• Keen to take on challenge whilst having a proactive and positive approach to work
• Be able to manage multiple tasks and deliver them to demanding targets and tight deadlines
• Good facilitator, problem solver and able to police systems and encourage compliance.

Desirable:
• Postgraduate degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering or similar
• Working knowledge of CAD tools (preferably NX)
