Engineering contractor Costain is set to start work on a £150m upgrade of the Gatwick Airport train station in spring 2020, with work set to be completed after 2 years.

The project, which will see a raft of new lifts and escalators plus doubling the length of the concourse, has long been linked with Costain in the design and planning stages.

The renovation was approved by the Department for Transport and will be managed by Network Rail, and is described as a “fantastic example of the public and private sector working together to deliver a world-class transport hub”.

It is expected that the use of cutting-edge technology will play a part in minimising disruption throughout the works, which is necessary as passenger numbers are expected to increase in coming years.
