The government will approve the High Speed 2 (HS2) rail project today, it has been reported by the BBC.

The new high-speed line is set to link London to Birmingham and Crewe in its first stage, before extending from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds in its second phase.

HS2 is crucial to the advancement of UK transport links, adding much needed extra capacity to the rail infrastructure and dramatically cutting intercity journey times, as new trains will be capable of traveling at 250mph.

The work to build HS2 and its surrounding infrastructure is also a huge boost to employment in the UK and will continue to create thousands of job opportunities across the country.

While preparatory work on HS2 are well underway, today’s announcement will provide extra confidence to the project, with phase one due for completion between 2028-2031.
