Aston Martin St Athan Facility Officially Opened
6 Dec 2019
Aston Martin’s new manufacturing facility in St Athan, Wales, was officially opened today by the First Minister of Wales, Rt Hon Mark Drakeford, alongside Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer.
The former Ministry of Defence base is the home of Aston Martin’s first SUV, the DBX, along with the brand’s future electrification plans.
The journey to opening St Athan started upon its announcement in February 2016. In March of that year Millbank was involved in a huge recruitment event for the site, which attracted over 3,000 applicants.
By the time the DBX goes into full production in 2020, Aston Martin will have created 750 highly skilled jobs in the local area.
First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford said: “Today is a proud moment for Aston Martin, the Welsh Government and for Wales.
“Locating this world class and globally recognised brand in St Athan is a huge vote of confidence in the Welsh workforce. It is an example of the Welsh Government’s support and can-do attitude driving economic growth and creating jobs.
“I look forward to the first made-in-Wales Aston Martins rolling off the production line next year.”
