Global chemicals manufacturer INEOS has inked a five-year deal to become Principal Partner of the reigning F1 champions, Mercedes-AMG Petronas, it has announced.

The partnership had been rumoured but is now confirmed, and is part of INEOS’s wider strategy to partner with sports teams and brands.

INEOS is also associated with the former Sky British cycling team, French football team OGC Nice, and a sailing team competing for the America’s Cup.

The partnership will be the INEOS brand emblazed on the livery of the 2019 Constructor Championship winning Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 cars, driven by Valtteri Bottas and World Champion Lewis Hamilton, from the 2020 season onwards.

INEOS is owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the richest man in the UK. As well as being a global chemicals manufacturer they are set to produce a successor to the classic Land Rover Defender, named the Grenadier, under the banner of INEOS Automotive. The 4x4 will be built in Bridgend, Wales, with the first cars set to come off the production line in 2021.
