Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will invest hundreds of millions of pounds in its UK operations to produce an electric version of the XJ, it has been announced.

It’s great news for workers in the automotive industry, as the company has said 2,700 jobs will be secured.

While previous job losses were announced in the wake of the possibility of a no-deal Brexit, it is thought that JLR did not want to risk waiting any longer to introduce a new range of electric vehicles.

"The future of mobility is electric and, as a visionary British company, we are committed to making our next generation of zero-emission vehicles in the UK," said JLR chief executive Prof Ralf Speth.
