Aldi has announced an ambitious pledge to provide 10,000 students with remote work experience opportunities by the end of 2025, helping young people across the UK develop valuable career skills in the retail sector.
The free online programme will be open to anyone aged 13 and over, offering an introduction to different careers within the retail industry. Participants will gain insights into warehouse operations, in-store roles, and office-based functions, giving them a broader understanding of how a large-scale retailer like Aldi operates.
Lisa Murphy, Training and Development Director at Aldi UK, said:
“We know how important work experience is in helping young people take their first steps into the world of work. Our virtual work experience programme has already proved popular with thousands of students, and we want to ensure even more benefit from it.
That’s why we’ve made the commitment to reach 10,000 young people by the end of this year, making it easier than ever for them to access opportunities, regardless of where they live or their personal circumstances.”
The initiative builds on Aldi’s first virtual work programme, launched in December 2024, which attracted thousands of applications from students nationwide. This latest pledge demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring accessibility, particularly for those who may face barriers to in-person placements.
Through a mix of staff-led video insights, interactive quizzes, and engaging activities, young people will be able to explore what a career in retail could look like — from the frontline of store operations to logistics and supply chain management, as well as commercial and office-based support roles.
At Millbank, we recognise the importance of initiatives like this. Introducing young people to the breadth of opportunities available in sectors such as retail and FMCG is vital in shaping the workforce of tomorrow. The FMCG sector in particular is a cornerstone of the UK economy, spanning everything from food and beverage to pharmaceuticals and packaging. These industries demand skilled individuals across a diverse range of roles, including supply chain planners, warehouse supervisors, quality managers, project engineers, and operations leaders.
At Millbank, we’re deeply acquainted with the intricacies of the FMCG sector. It is this understanding that fuels our commitment to delivering impactful recruitment solutions. Our track record shines in assisting clients across FMCG — including the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and packaging industries. Guided by our core values of Heritage, Integrity, Expertise, Respect, and Transparency, we consistently connect top-tier talent with businesses nationwide.
That’s why we view Aldi’s pledge as more than just a training initiative. It’s a reminder of the responsibility we all share in preparing young people for the world of work, whether in retail, logistics, engineering, or FMCG. Developing accessible pathways into careers not only supports individual growth but also strengthens the future workforce that industries like ours rely on.
This initiative shows how businesses can use their resources to create real, lasting impact. By investing in skills development, companies can give the next generation the confidence and opportunity to thrive.
At Millbank, we are proud to support the ongoing development of the UK workforce and remain committed to helping shape a future where opportunity and talent come together.
